Workers’ Organisations for Democracy (WOD) , Thailand submited letter to call for Somyot Preuksakasemsuk’s release on the 31 May 2011

On the 31 MAY 2011, the group of Thai unioniss from the Worker’ Organisations for Democracy (WOD) had submited the letetr to the Prime Minister to call for release of Somyot Preuksakasemsuk , known labour activist, jounalist and pro democracy activist in Thailand.

Letters from international friends were presented along with a statement by Workers Organisation for Democracy.

Around 40 unionists from textile, garment, chemical, students and academics, participated in the demonstration.

At 10.00 am, Mr Phromma Phumphan who is a textile union leader and the speaker of this group, presented the letters to the Prime Minister calling the government to respect the basic rights of Somyot Pruksakasemsuk. “Everyone who is accused of law violation has the right to bail and to prepare his responses. Thai Constitution also guarantees this right”, said Mr Phromma.

At 11.10 am, the letters were received by Director of Grievances Centre at Government House, Mr Phansak Charoen, who said he would hand these letters to the Prime Minister.
